Change the Category for an Input on a ServerTemplate

To change the input category for a script that has been added to a ServerTemplate and create a new category if desired.

You must be working with an editable [HEAD] version of a ServerTemplate. You can create an editable version by cloning a ServerTemplate. For more information, see Clone a ServerTemplate.

When you add a script to a ServerTemplate, it is automatically placed in the 'UNCATEGORIZED' category. You do not need to change the category but may want to do so if you are customizing a ServerTemplate extensively by adding scripts and need to categorize them for better tracking or organization.

Use the following steps to change the input category of a script.

  1. Go to your deployment > ServerTemplate name > Inputs.
  2. Click the Show icon (Magnifying_glass_icon.png) for the script that you are recategorizing.
  3. Click Clone.
  4. A confirmation message appears and the new script displays on the page with a new version assigned to it. If necessary, you can rename the script here by clicking on it.
  5. Click Edit and scroll down to the bottom of the page.
  6. Under Inputs, either select one of the RightScale categories from the drop-down menu or click New to create your own. Save your changes.

  1. Click Commit and add a Commit Message (required). Commit your changes.
  2. Delete the original script from the ServerTemplate.
  3. Click Add Script.
  4. Under Publisher, click Unpublished and find your script in the Search Results.
  5. Click your script to highlight it then and click Select.
  6. Commit the ServerTemplate using the Commit button at the top of the page.
  7. Add a Commit Message (required).
  8. Click the Inputs tab of your ServerTemplate to verify that your changes were executed successfully.

You must to post a comment.
