Launch a VPC v2 Server


Due to RightScale Legacy Platform deprecation, this section covering Amazon Web Services Virtual Private Clouds (VPC) is no longer valid. Please see the Network Manager section for current information on creating and managing AWS VPCs.

  • VPC v2 will only be visible for paid RightScale accounts that have signed up for the AWS VPC service on Amazon.


  • Navigate to Manage > Servers
  • Click New Server.
  • Cloud: Select the AWS Region where your VPC exists.
  • Deployment: Select the deployment where you would like to launch your VPC server.

Next you will select a ServerTemplate and configure the Server Details.

Server Details

Select a VPC Subnet and complete the following fields listed below:



  • Server Name: A common name for the server.
  • MultiCloud Image: The MultiCloud Image that will be used for your server. You can either select an existing multiCloud Image or leave it as "Inherit from ServerTemplate" which is the default.
  • Instance Type: Describes the size of the EC2 instance.
  • Pricing: Choose the type of instance by pricing (Spot or On-demand). If Spot is chosen, specify a max Spot price.
  • VPC Subnet: The subnet of your Virtual Private Cloud.
  • Placement Tenancy: The tenancy of the server you want to launch. A server with tenancy of "dedicated" runs on single-tenant hardware and can only be launched into a VPC.
  • Private IP Address: Use this optional parameter to assign the server a specific available private IP address from the subnet (e.g.
    • NAT Enabled: Use this optional parameter to enable Network Address Translation for your Server.
  • SSH Key: Specify a (previously created) SSH Key to use.
  • Elastic IP: Specify an EIP to use for the server or choose 'none'.
    • Associate IP at launch?: If checked, the specified EIP will be assigned to the server when it is launched for the first time.
  • Security Group: Select a previously created Security Group(s) to use for security purposes. You may also create a new one.


The Confirm tab will allow you to review your selections before clicking Launch.
