Set up HP Cloud Object Storage

Table of Contents

To set up HP Cloud's Object Storage service (ROS) so that you can create containers for storing data such as images, database dump files, and database backups.

  • 'designer' or 'admin' user role privileges in the RightScale account
  • Login access to the HP Cloud console for your project

Create Object Storage Credentials

Cloud credentials are required to upload objects to an object storage container or retrieve "private" objects. If you are using ServerTemplates published by RightScale, many of them contain scripts for interacting with various remote object storage services. Before you start setting up deployments you should create user-defined credentials to securely pass the required cloud credentials for HP Cloud's Object Storage.

  1. Log into HP Cloud's console ( and retrieve the values that you're going to use to create Credentials in the RightScale Dashboard.
  2. Go to the Account Overview section and retrieve the Account Number.

  3. Go to the API Keys section and retrieve the Tenant ID and Secret Access Key.

  4. Log into the RightScale Dashboard and go to Design Credentials > New
  5. Create two new credentials with the following names and values.
    • HP_ACCESS_KEY_ID - The OpenStack Object Storage (Swift) Account ID. The keypait that will be used to authenticate API requests to HP Object Storage service is comprised of the Account Number and Project / Tenant ID. (<Account Number>:<Tenant ID>).  (e.g. 10991099109910:98769876987644)
    • HP_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY - The account's Secret Access Key. (e.g.  h3Cgh3Cg8h3Cg8h3Cg8h3Cg8h3Cg8h3Cg8h3Cg8)

Important! If you ever generate a new set of API Key for security reasons, be sure to update your Credentials with the new values.
