Backup Master-DB

After the backup is completed, a new tar file will be placed onto S3, according to the bucket name and file prefix defined in the server template's input variables (BACKUP_S3_BUCKET and BACKUPFILE_PREFIX). The complete filename of the backup will have the date appended to the specified prefix. (Ex: mybackup- 200709081143.tar,  where BACKUPFILE_PREFIX = myBackup) Date and times are in UTC format, which makes it easy sort and locate the times of the existing backup files.

NOTE: The time for a backup to complete widely varies depending on the size of the DB, and the activity on the DB.

  1. Go to the running master DB's instance page.  (Manage -> Servers)
  2. Click on the nickname of the master DB.
  3. Click on the Scripts tab.  Then click on the DB backup operational button.
  4. Wait several minutes for the action to be successfully completed.  The time for a backup to complete widely varies depending on the size of the DB, and the activity on the DB.

What feedback to expect

The Recent Events pane will highlight the progress of the operation.  If the action is not completed successfully and there is a failure message, click on the name of the action in the Recent Events pane for a detailed output that you can use for troubleshooting.
