By default, the "MySQL 5.x EBS v2" ServerTemplate is pre-configured to automatically take continuous backups. However, it is still possible to perform a manual backup of a DB instance at a particular point in time.
You want to backup the data from the Master-DB instance (not the Slave-DB instance). For example, you might want to save the full contents of the database before and/or after applying significant code or data modifications to the system, just in case you need to recover from possible data corruption.
