    Objective

To register a private Eucalyptus cloud to a RightScale account so that you can manage your cloud's virtual machine instances (VMI) using the RightScale Dashboard.  After a successful registration, your cloud will be listed under the Clouds menu and you will be able to launch and terminate instances in the Dashboard.

    Prerequisites

    • RightScale supports Eucalyptus 2.0.x for non-production deployments only. For use of Eucalyptus in production deployments, please use Eucalyptus version 3.0x. Currently, our testing and support is under development for this recently released version.
    • Before you can register your cloud, you must first successfully complete the Eucalyptus Installation. Click the Register button on your cloud's Eucalyptus home page.

    • Your RightScale account must be enabled for registering a private Eucalyptus cloud.  Please contact your account manager for details.
    • In order to add a private cloud, you must be an 'admin' user in the RightScale account. This tutorial is geared towards the person who is the administrator of a private cloud.
    • You must also have a set of non-Admin user credentials, which you created with Eucalyptus.

    Register a Private Cloud

Once you've installed and set up your private Eucalyptus, you need to register the cloud itself with RightScale so that it can be accessed through the RightScale platform.

    • Go to Settings -> Account -> Administered Clouds tab.
    • Under "Register Your Private Cloud" select Eucalyptus from the dropdown menu

Note: If you do not see this tab, your RightScale account is not enabled for adding a private cloud. You must have 'admin' user role privileges to use this feature. Please contact your account manager for details.

Next, you will need to provide your Eucalyptus admin credentials in order to verify that you are the administrator of the private cloud.

    • Name - Provide a name for your private cloud.  Since the name of the cloud will appear in the Dashboard under the Clouds menu, it's recommended that you use a short name.
    • Description - Provide a brief description about your private cloud.  You might want to include a reference link or contact information.
    • Registration URL - The URL of the private cloud itself.   (Also called the "API URL") (e.g. http://99.88.123.456.1:8080/client/api)   This value is provided by Eucalyptus.
    • Registration Token - The Cloud ID Token from the Eucalyptus cloud management console. (e.g. c5e4e0e7-fib7-4af4-8b31-4e17f195e6ff)

If the private cloud has already been registered with RightScale and you want to enable your account to be able to use that private cloud's resources in your RightScale account, see Add a Eucalyptus Cloud to a RightScale Account.
