- Disclaimer -

recently_intro_icon.gifThe following new ServerTemplates have been added to the RightScale MultiCloud Marketplace. Be sure to read the documentation, follow best practice principles, and thoroughly test any new functionality before making any changes to your production deployment.

New Features

Note: This release is part of the infinity lineage.

HP ROS Support

HP ROS is supported starting with the v13.4 ServerTemplate release.

Google Volume Support

Volume support for Google has been added to the v13.4 ServerTemplates. You can now create, attach, snapshot, detach, and destroy volumes on any instance types in Google.

Rackspace Private Cloud Support

The latest version of Rackspace private cloud is supported with the release of the v13.4 ServerTemplates.

Support for Rackspace Managed Open Cloud

Support for Rackspace Managed Open Cloud has been added to the v13.4 ServerTemplate release. For launching a server in the Rackspace Managed Open Cloud, the following advanced inputs should be set in the "rightscale" cookbook.

  • The username for Rackspace account
  • The password for Rackspace account
  • The account ID for Rackspace account

Note: These inputs are only required for the Rackspace Managed Open cloud.

If any of these inputs are not set, the server will strand with an error saying these inputs should be set in order to launch servers on the Rackspace Managed Open cloud. All of the setup of Rackspace agents are performed in the rightscale::setup_cloud recipe. This recipe will be skipped on other clouds.

Rackspace Private version 3 support

The v13.4 ServerTemplates will now support the "version 3" of Rackspace Private Cloud.

Linux Security Updates

Linux security has been updated on all ServerTemplates by adding the following two scripts:

  • rightscale::.setup_security_update_monitoring (boot)
  • rightscale::do_security_updates (boot and operational)

To enable security updates, set the Enable security updates input to 'enable'. if this input is set to 'enable', security repositories are unfrozen and security updates are applied. If not, the security recipes skip their actions. If enabled, security updates are applied when a server launches. They can also be applied to a running server (see the RightScale cookbook README for more information).

Note: Once security updates are enabled they can not be disabled.

Support for Rackspace Open Cloud Sydney

Support has been added for Rackspace Open Cloud Sydney including support for instances, images, instance types, volumes, volume types and volume snapshots. For this release, you must import and add the Open Cloud Sydney MCI (Ubuntu Sydney MCI, CentOS Sydney MCI) to your ServerTemplate. For more information, see Add a MultiCloud Image to a ServerTemplate.

Windows Updates

The windows ServerTemplates contain the following general updates for the v13.4 release:

  • Added support for OpenStack Folsom cloud
  • Added support for Rackspace private cloud
  • Added support for Windows Server 2012 for CloudStack clouds (full support for VMware and XenServer hypervisors, base and IIS STs for KVM)

See the individual ServerTemplate sections below for feature and application version information.\

Microsoft SQL Server Witness Beta (v13.4)

This ServerTemplate configures a Microsoft SQL Server Express database server that may be used to add a mirroring witness to a MS SQL Server mirroring pair. The witness is an optional instance of SQL Server that enables the mirror server in a high-safety mode session to recognize whether to initiate an automatic failover. Unlike the two partners, the witness does not serve the database; supporting automatic failover is the only role of the witness.

More information about using mirroring witness can be found at Microsoft Technet

Key Features:

  • SQL Server Express (no license required)
  • Performs automatic failover of a mirrored pair of SQL Server DBs
  • Does NOT store database content locally.

Application versions:

  • .Net 3.5SP1
  • .Net 4.0
  • .Net 4.5
  • SQL Server 2008R2

Known Limitations

Stop/start on a server

After a stop/start on a server, the block_device::do_force_reset recipe cannot be used.

Azure Ubuntu Image

The db::do_primary_restore rescipe (on Database Manager ServerTemplates) and the block_device::do_primary_restore recipe (for Storage Toolbox) with the Azure Ubuntu image hangs when performing LVM commands. During this time, the CPU becomes busy and makes it impossible to terminate the process that runs the LVS commands.

Ubuntu 12.04 Images

If the hostname of an Ubuntu 12.04 server is 38 characters or longer, servers will strand because of an NTP setup error when using ServerTemplates between v13.1 and v13.4.

Google Cloud Storage API v2 support

Currently, our ServerTemplates do not support Google Cloud Storage v2 API. For more information, see Why do scripts and recipes fail with a missing project ID error?
