MultiCloud Images

The MultiCloud Image name also denotes the type of image (AMI) that it's mapped to and whether it's a traditional S3-based image or an EBS-based image.  EBS-based images will include "EBS" in the name.  For an exhaustive list of all published MultiCloud Images, go to the MultiCloud Marketplace (Design -> MultiCloud Marketplace -> MultiCloud Images).

V5 Images

'EBS' in the MCI name denotes that it's referencing EBS-based AMIs (i.e. bootable EBS Snapshots).
If 'EBS' is not found in the namespace, the MCI will reference standard S3-based AMIs.

Known Issues

Please report issues to:  support@rightscale.com

There are two known issues that affect instances using the 5.4.3 Windows RightImages.

Cookbook changes are not sent to the instance

Problem:  When cookbooks are updated in your repository, the changes are not automatically sent to a running instance, which makes developing new Chef cookbooks difficult as the cached cookbooks on the instance must be deleted before the new cookbook code will be downloaded to it.

Temporary Solution:  You must manually clear the cached cookbooks on the instance.

  • On Windows 2003 instances: Log into the instance and delete C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\RightScale\cache
  • On Windows 2008 instances: Log into the instance and delete C:\ProgramData\RightScale\cache

Must Reboot Windows 2008 instances after installing RightLink

Problem:  If you install RightLink on a Windows 2008 instance and bundle it before rebooting the instance, the bundled image will be unusable.  Windows 2008 Instances must be rebooted after installing RightLink and prior to syspreping and/or bundling.

Solution:  When following the RightLink Installer for Windows tutorial to create a RightLink-enabled image, be sure to reboot the instance after installing RightLink and before you bundle the image.
