You can now utilize SSD storage with Google Compute Engine (GCE) instances. SSD is suitable for extreme low latency, high IOPS, and high throughput use cases such as large, high-performance databases.
A Volume Type must now be specified when you create a new Google Volume. A new Volume Type drop-down control includes choices for 'pd-standard', 'pd-ssd', and 'local-ssd' volume types. For additional information on creating Google Volumes, see Create a Google Volume.
For GCE and AWS volumes, you can now specify root volume size at the time of server launch.
