New Features

- Disclaimer -

recently_intro_icon.gifThe following new features have been added to the RightScale Cloud Management Platform. Be sure to read the documentation, follow best practice principles, and thoroughly test any new functionality before making any changes to your production deployment.

User Authorization Logging

Authorization Logging is now available for those looking to monitor authentication events of RightScale's Dashboard and API. Authorization Logging uses AWS's Simple Notification Services (SNS) to send messages through HTTP/HTTPS, email, MMS, or to an AWS SQS. For more information, see Enable Authorization Logging. Additionally, if you are using RightScale to manage an AWS SQS, you can set up these notifications to be sent to your SQS queue and manage them through RightScale. For more information, see Enable Authorization Logging Events with AWS SQS.

AWS S3 Browser (beta)

A new AWS S3 Browser UI is available for use. Currently this is in beta, but it will eventually replace the current S3 Browser. To enable this feature, go to Clouds > AWS Global > S3 Browser. At the top of the page, you will see a message that asks if you would like to try the new S3 Browser. You can click on the link in the message and will be directed to the new browser. You can return to the old S3 Browser at anytime by clicking a link in the message at the top of the page. Please provide feedback through the feedback button at the top-right of the new S3 Browser's page.

For more information about this feature, see S3 Browser (beta)

AWS ELB Browser (beta)

A new AWS Elastic Load Balancing Browser UI is available for use. Currently this is in beta, but it will eventually replace the current Elastic Load Balancer UI. To enable this feature, go to Clouds > AWS Region > Load Balancing. At the top of the page, you will see a message that asks if you would like to try the new ELB Browser. You can click on the link in the message and will be directed to the new browser. You can return to the old ELB Browser at anytime by clicking a link in the message at the top of the page. Please provide feedback through the feedback button at the top-right of the new S3 Browser's page.

For more information about this feature, see Load Balancing (beta)

Changes

RightLink 5.5 with Chef Deprecated

With this release, RightLink 5.5 with Chef is no longer supported. RightLink 5.5 with RightScripts continues to be supported, although support is deprecated and will be dropped in a future release.

Enhanced Features

Enterprise Report Manager

Report Manager now includes instance cost reporting for Google Compute Engine and Microsoft Azure. Additionally, users can now select S3 buckets as an output destination when scheduling recurring reports. For more information, see Report Manager.

Windows Azure Registration

The process of acquiring the appropriate Windows Azure credentials and them to RightScale is significantly streamlined. Just download your publish profile XML file through Azure and upload it into the RightScale Dashboard to get started. See Sign up for Windows Azure and Add Windows Azure to a RightScale Account for more information.

API Improvements

Enhancements have been made to API 1.5 that include support for account-level tagging for enterprise child accounts, listing identity providers for enterprise child accounts, start/stop support for server instances in CloudStack 3.0.6, and an improved standard for setting and getting Input values. For more information, see the API 4.7 Change Log

Publishing Improvements

Additionally, when deprecating a previously published object, you are now able to add deprecation comments to inform users as to the reason for deprecation and direct them to a different ServerTemplate.

Marketplace Improvements

When a newer version of a published ServerTemplate (or other published object) is available, users will now see a notice when viewing the ServerTemplate in the marketplace directing them to the newer version. Also, MultiCloud Images in the marketplace now show cloud icons (like ServerTemplates) making it easier for users to find images for their specific cloud. We have also improved the search in the Marketplace to include the long description of published objects.

Priority Bugs

RightLink 5.5 with RightScripts was temporarily not working, but this issue is fixed.

Many bugs were resolved with this release. If you are interested in inquiring about a particular issue, please contact support@rightscale.com
