New Relic

Overview

New Relic (www.newrelic.com) offers a product which is a Ruby on Rails and Java application Performance Management solution that enables developers to quickly and cost effectively detect, diagnose, and fix their application performance problems in real-time. Currently, it is specifically designed for Ruby on Rails and Java applications. (They are working on support for other languages, please consult their website for current information.)

You can either sign-up for a new account or enter your existing New Relic credentials. If you create a new account, you will receive access to their free Lite version. To learn how to sign-up, follow our tutorial link below.

  • Host - a server
  • Instance - an instance of a Ruby on Rails application

Actions

Note: You must enable the New Relic Account feature to allow API access before starting. There is an option in your New Relic account that will allow API access, to do this please connect to your New Relic account and select the 'Account' link. There you will see a checkbox with the following legend 'Make my performance data accessible through New Relic's API with my license key'. This checkbox needs to be checked.
