CloudStack Supported Features

  • Instances
  • Images
  • Instance Types
  • Datacenter / Zones
  • External Firewall
  • IP Addresses - Public IP addresses are supported in the RightScale Dashboard, however you can only create them in the CloudStack management console. After creating your IP addresses beforehand, they will be populated in a dropdown menu when creating a server for selection.
  • Load Balancer - This feature is supported by RightScale. However, you must write your own scripts to connect and disconnect from load balancing pools. You may also contact your account manager or sales@rightscale.com for more information on how to execute this action.
  • External Load Balancer - This features is supported by RightScale. However, you must write your own scripts to connect and disconnect from load balancing pools. You may also contact your account manager or sales@rightscale.com for more information on how to execute this action.
  • Network Service Offerings - CloudStack's network-as-a-service offering is supported in the RightScale Dashboard with the default Network only. Currently, you may not choose a network when launching a server, the default Network will be used every time.
  • Port Forwarding Rules - This feature is only supported in the Dashboard and currently not for the API.
  • Projects - This feature is not supported in the RightScale Dashboard, however we recommend not using projects with RightScale, instead utilizing RightScale deployments to group and organize servers and utilize multiple user collaboration within a RightScale account.
  • Security Groups
  • Subnets
  • Stop/Start - Stores the instance's current volume state to resume later using the 'start' action. Then starts an instance that has been stopped, resuming it to its previously saved volume state. When the instance is 'stopped', in RIghtScale dashboard the current instance is marked 'stopped' and a new instance is created in the 'provisioned' state with the same resource UID.

Note: If the instance is started outside of RightScale, the userdata is not generated in which case the instance is stuck in booting. In that case you may need to do a workaround.

GENERIC Cloud Services

The following tutorials provide direction surrounding features supported by the RightScale Dashboard.  Note that not all cloud infrastructures support all  features.  The Supported Features table should be consulted for that information.  (Then click the appropriate link below.)
