Create a VPC Security Group

Table of Contents

Due to RightScale Legacy Platform deprecation, this section covering Amazon Web Services Virtual Private Clouds (VPC) is no longer valid. Please see the Network Manager section for current information on creating and managing AWS VPCs.

VPC is only visible for paid RightScale accounts that have signed up for the AWS VPC service on Amazon.

With VPC security groups, you can define ingress and outgress rules, as opposed to standard EC2 security groups, where you can only define ingress rules. The default is no ingress allowed, so you must add ingress rules to allow any inbound access. For egress, all outbound access is allowed by default unless egress rules are defined. Within a VPC, instances can belong to multiple security groups, but an instance will automatically be assigned to the default security group (by default) for the VPC.

  • Go to Clouds > AWS Region of your VPC > Ec2 Security Groups
  • Click New.
  • Be sure to select the VPC option for the "Scope" of the security group.

  • Set IP port permissions to allow all IPs for the specified ports
  • Click Create.

The VPC security group page is much like the non-VPC security group page. However, you have the ability to specify Ingress or egress traffic.
