New VPN Gateway

Due to RightScale Legacy Platform deprecation, this section covering Amazon Web Services Virtual Private Clouds (VPC) is no longer valid. Please see the Network Manager section for current information on creating and managing AWS VPCs.

Create a new VPN Gateway.  This is the AWS Virtual Private Cloud side of the network connection.

Background Information

Consider the following information while setting up your network connection:

  • AWS may remove any created VPN gateway if it is left inactive for an extended period of time (where inactive means that there's no VPN connection in use with the VPN gateway).
  • You are free to create a VPN Gateway before you create your VPC, but usually the VPC is already created.

Step 1:  Navigation

  • Navigate to Clouds -> AWS US/EU -> VPCs
  • Select the VPC (most only have one VPC)
  • Select the Gateways tab

Step 2:  Supply the VPN Gateway information

  • Select the New VPN gateway action button
  • Provide the following information:
    • Type - The type of network connection.  (Although there is no default value, only IPsec is currently supported so "ipsec.1" is prepopulated for you.)
    • Availability Zone - Select an availability zone from the drop-down menu where you want the VPN gateway to reside.

Step 3:  Save your VPN Gateway configuration

  • When ready, select the Create action button

If you try to create and save a VPN Gateway and have exceeded the allowed limit you wil receive a flash error message similar to the following:

VpnGatewayLimitExceeded: The maximum number of vpnConnection gateways has been reached.

Note:  Although you cannot edit existing VPN Gateways, you can delete and add new ones.
