Delete a Repository

Objective

To permanently delete a repository on GitHub. 

Prerequisites

Overview

You can only remove a repository from your own GitHub account. 

Warning!
If you delete a private repository, all forks of that repository will also be deleted. However, if you delete a public repository all forks of a public repository will not be deleted.

Steps

  1. Log into your user account on GitHub. (http://github.com)
  2. Go to the repository that you want to delete.
  3. Click the Admin button.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Delete this repository button.
  5. As a safety precaution, you will be prompted to confirm the action.
