To view your own user role privileges across all of your accounts, go to Settings > User > Info. Remember, user roles are account-specific. The following is a list of RightScale User Roles:
For a complete matrix of what you can/cannot do inside the Dashboard based with your user role privileges, see User Role Privileges.
Administrative control of the RightScale Account. An account can have multiple users with 'admin' privileges. Only 'admins' can send and receive account invitations. Only an 'admin' can add/change public/private cloud infrastructures and credentials, modify user permissions, and accept account group invitations on behalf of a RightScale account. The RightScale account owner (the person who created the account) cannot have admin privileges revoked by another 'admin' user; the account owner will always have 'admin' user role privileges in the account he/she created. However, only an 'admin' user can revoke another user's 'admin' privileges. Ability to view and generate Infrastructure Audit Reports. View Customer Usage Reports (if the RightScale account is enabled for this feature).
Ability to manage all cloud related activity. In the Dashboard, you'll need 'actor' privileges in order to perform any actions located under the Clouds menu. Create, edit, delete cloud objects like EC2 SSH Keys and security groups, as well as perform actions on those launch, terminate, and manage server instances, manage deployments, etc. However, you can only view/edit the SSH keys that you created yourself.
Ability to view the RightScale account. If users do not have at least 'observer' role privileges, they will not be able to login into the Dashboard and view the account.
Ability to create ServerTemplates, RightScripts, Cookbooks, Repositories, and Macros. Ability to view local object collections under the Design menu. You can also view the MultiCloud Marketplace (MCM) and see what assets are available. However, you will need the 'library' user role in order to import an object from the MCM.
Ability to import objects from the MultiCloud Marketplace to your local view (collection). The ability to view the MultiCloud Marketplace (while logged into the RightScale dashboard) requires the 'designer' role.
Ability to create a cloud Security Group and modify an existing Security Group's port permissions. Ability to view and generate Infrastructure Audit Reports.
Ability to log into servers (Note: this does not apply to Windows). See What is Server Login Control?
Ability to log in as root to servers (Note: this does not apply to Windows). See What is the difference between server_login and server_superuser permissions?
(This user role was deprecated in Q4-2009)
Ability to create and manage sub-accounts under Settings > Account Settings > Sub-accounts.
Ability to create sharing groups and share RightScale objects (ServerTemplates, RightScripts, and Macros) with other users. If you have a RightScale partner account, you can publish RightScale objects so that they appear in the MultiCloud Marketplace under their respective Partners tab.
(Enterprise only) Manages all accounts within the enterprise. Send account invitations and grant user role privileges across all accounts in the enterprise. The master enterprise account must have at least one 'enterprise_manager' user. An 'enterprise_manager' can also grant the same privileges to another user. 'Enterprise_manager' gives the ability to define specific cost quotas for each child account within the Enterprise and receive email alert notifications when one of the child RightScale accounts approaches or exceeds the defined quota. See Enterprise.
Note: To enable the 'enterprise_manager' role, someone that is already an 'enterprise_manager' needs to be enable the role. This is done by going to Settings > Enterprise > User in the Enterprise master account.
(Enterprise only) A 'lite_user' has limited access inside the Dashboard. A lite user cannot design or create objects inside the Dashboard such as ServerTemplates, RightScripts, Alert Escalations, etc. Lite users cannot see the following menu items in the Dashboard: Clouds, RightScripts, Alert Escalations, or Account information. Lite users can only see the Info tab of a Macro, and the Info and Clouds tabs of a ServerTemplate. A 'lite_user' cannot have 'admin' role privileges and vice-versa. See Enterprise.
By default all users of a RightScale account can view billing information. You will be able to see estimated cloud usage costs (Report -> Usage Estimate) or the Deployments Budget Estimates under Manage > Deployments > View Dashboard. However, if you prefer to hide this information, you can file a RightScale Support Ticket requesting that the "Billing Admin-only" account setting be enabled on your RightScale account so that only users with 'admin' and 'billing' user role privileges will be able to see billing related information.
