Add a Eucalyptus Cloud to a RightScale Account

    Objective

To add an already existing private Eucalyptus cloud to your RightScale account so that you can view and access that cloud's virtual machine instances (VMI) using the RightScale Dashboard.  Once you've added a cloud, it will be listed under the Clouds menu and you will be able to launch and terminate instances in the Dashboard.

    Prerequisites

The following are prerequisites for completing this tutorial:

    • A Private Eucalyptus Cloud that has already been registered with RightScale.  See Register a Eucalyptus Cloud with RightScale.
    • Your own Eucalyptus account. Either you're the cloud administrator and created an account during the cloud installation process or you need to have the cloud administrator create a user account for you.
    • You must have "Admin" role privileges on your RightScale account. Only Admin users will be able to add a private cloud to their account (non admin users will not be able to see the "Add private cloud" button).
    • You must have a "Cloud Token" for the private cloud you wish to add. The administrator of the cloud must provide you with the unique token for the cloud. Each cloud will use the same token.

    Steps

    Add Private Cloud

    • Go to Settings -> Account Settings -> Clouds.

Note: If you do not see this button, your RightScale account is not enabled for adding a private cloud. Please contact your account manager for details.

    • Click Add a Private Cloud.

    Enter the Cloud Token

Since the private cloud has already been registered with RightScale:

    • Enter the private cloud's Cloud Token.
    • Click Add.

If you have successfully added the private cloud to your account, it will appear under Settings -> Account Settings -> Clouds, as well as in the navigation menu of the Dashboard under Clouds.

Note: It may take several minutes to discover all of your private cloud's resources.

    Cloud Status

Both of these items must be valid and active (green) in order to successfully launch instances in your private cloud.

    • cloud controller - The status of the cloud.
    • cloud account - The status of your cloud credentials.

Once you've just added an existing private cloud to your RighScale account, you can access its resources and launch instances in that cloud.
