Sign up for Windows Azure

Objective

To sign up for Windows Azure and obtain credentials.

Background Information

Before you create a RightScale account and start launching instances using the RightScale Dashboard, you must first have valid Windows Azure credentials. You can either sign up for a new Windows Azure account or use existing Azure credentials. This tutorial assumes that you are creating a new Windows Azure account.

Create a Windows Azure Account

The first step is to sign up for Windows Azure. If you already have an Windows Azure account, you can sign in using your existing Windows Azure account or you can create a new account.

Sign-up for Required Windows Azure Products & Services

  1. After receiving the welcome email, log into account.windowsazure.com.
  2. Click on ‘Account.’
  3. Click on your subscription and click on ‘Preview Features’.
  4. Make sure you are signed up for ‘Virtual Machines & Virtual Networks’, if not click try it now.

Download Publish Profile

In order for RightScale to control your Windows Azure subscription and assets, you must first create security credentials.

Steps
  1. Click https://windows.azure.com/download/publishprofile.aspx. You must be logged in to Azure download the publish profile.
  2. Keep this file in a secure location as they serve as your credentials to administer on behalf of your subscriptions.
  3. Proceed to Add Windows Azure to a RightScale Account to add Azure to your RightScale Account.
