What does this error mean, "AuthFailure: Subscription to ProductCode 82772019 required"?

Background Information

You're trying to launch an image and you receive the following error message:  AuthFailure: Subscription to ProductCode 82772019 required

What subscription am I missing and how do I get it so I can use the image?

 


Answer

This error message indicates that you are using a non-RightScale Amazon Machine Image (AMI), and the author of that image requires that you pay for the use of that image. In order to use this type of AMI, you must add a subscription to your AWS account. It will cost you more money per hour to run an instance with that image than running the same type of instance with a RightScale image. RightScale does not charge over and above the base Amazon price. Some image authors, especially if they have licensed software on their images, charge over and above the base Amazon price.

You should contact the author of the image for instructions on how to subscribe and gain access to use their image.
