What should I check when RightLink fails or has errors on a Windows Instance?

Background

If RightLink fails to start, or if RightLink is running, but has an error, refer below to find a list of what information to look for based on your current platform. These logs can help you troubleshoot the issue, and will also help Support if you need to contact them to work on the issue.

Answer

Windows Server 2003 (32-bit):

First, Check Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc) from the command line or Run menu, and navigate to the "RightLink" section.

Then, if you need more information, get the logfile at "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\RightScale\logs\rs_instance_<unique identifier>.log"

 

To get your user data, and your meta data, refer to the following locations:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\RightScale\rightscale.d\spool\meta-data.dict
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\RightScale\rightscale.d\
spool\user-data.dict

 

RightLink Monitor logs will be located at:

C:\Program Files\RightScale\RightLinkService\scripts\
C:\Program Files\RightScale\
RightLinkService\scripts\monitoring.rb
