How do I create a private cloud ServerTemplate?

Table of Contents

Background

You're using ServerTemplates that are configured to work with one of the public clouds that RightScale supports. (e.g. Amazon EC2). But now you want to use those same ServerTemplates and scripts to launch the same type of Server in a private cloud environment (e.g. Cloud.com's Cloudstack) and you don't know how to do it.

Answer

The first thing to remember is that a ServerTemplate is cloud-agnostic. A ServerTemplate's MultiCloud Images (MCIs) determine which clouds/regions a ServerTemplate supports. To modify your ServerTemplate so that it can be used to launch servers in a private cloud, see the Customize a ServerTemplate to be MultiCloud tutorial.
