Why am I unable to auto-scale?

Background Information

After hammering a frontend server with httperf and ensuring that the vote thresholds are met the array should have grown. Unfortunately this didn't seem to happen.

Answer

  1. Make sure the alert spec is assigned to the instances that you want to vote.
  2. If you have one spec that triggers a 'vote to grow,' and one that triggers a 'vote to shrink,' the decision is 0 and neither will take place FOR THAT SERVER. Make sure that it's clear to either grow or shrink and that they are not competing with each other.
  3. You can also look at the alert specifications and escalations to see the age of the actions to help determine what's been triggered.
