As a result of the upgrade, why are all of my cookbooks in the "alternate" namespace?

Table of Contents

Overview

On August 22nd, 2013, accounts were upgraded to support our Cookbooks and Repositories sections in our dashboard. For information about why this change was made, see this blog post.

As a result of this upgrade, you will see all cookbooks in the alternate namespace. Once you start importing cookbooks, you will see cookbooks in the primary namespace.

Answer

When RightScale upgraded the Chef system, we placed all migrated cookbooks into the alternate namespace to avoid conflicts where the same cookbook version might have been used in two different ServerTemplates but with different content. For more information about namespaces, see Primary and Alternate Namespaces.
